IMPORTANT BATTLES OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR
The First Battle of Bull Run: The Union surrounded each other in the nation's capital, Washington D.C., in hope to seize the Confederate troops in Manassas, in the great southern state of Virginia. At the time, the city was known for its vital railroad, that's also what the Union was interested in. But, the attempts to take down the Confederacy and the railroads were demolished as the Confederate troops were waiting for the Union to strike at a nearby creek. Drove them back to the nation's capital and forced the to retreat.
THE PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN
General George McClellan was in charge of the Union forces as he led them to a seven day battle against the Union in Yorktown. They decided to head out West from the Atlantic to Richmond, Virginia. Along the way, however, they would find themselves going head to head against General Robert E. Lee and General Joseph E. Johnston. Over the time of the battle, the Union was defeated.
THE BATTLE OF ANTIETAM
General Robert E. Lee of the Confederate forces and the leader of the Northern Virginia Army, moved to strike the Union in their territory back into Maryland. However, the tides to the victorious siege was condemned as one of the Confederate troops dropped the battle plans, later discovered by the Union army. Delivered it back to General Ulysses S. Grant and found out how their army was to be divided into two sections. Quickly, the Union reacted and abolished the Confederate, it was a Union victory on September 17, 1862.
THE BATTLE OF SHILOH
This Battle was the first battle since Union forces were sent to out West and of course, the East. The Battle was fought and named as one of three "Wars in the West". General Ulysses S. Grant led his Union army into the heart of of the Volunteer State of Tennessee. Pushing forth and driving back the Confederate, the Union continued to advance. In the Bloodiest Battle in the American Civil War, General Grant and the Union won the battle despite the number of more casualties lost than Confederate.

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG
A Three day battle where the Union was victorious over the Confederacy once and for all, with more than 20,000 casualties on both sides Gettysburg is considered the bloodiest battle in U.S. history. It's also known as the turning point of the American Civil War. The two forces collided on the battlefield July 1st, 1861 as battle raged on significant places such as Little Round Top, the Wheat field, Devil's Den, and Peach Orchard. After the two days of battle, the finale led up to Pickett's Charge, 12,500 Confederate troops marched a mile to the Union artillery which led to many casualties for the Confederates leading to the end of their era, they surrendered the battle was over, the North had won.
SHERMAN'S MARCH TO THE SEA
The official name being "The Savannah Campaign" was conducted through the State of Georgia from November 15 to December 24, 1864 by Major Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman of the Union army, leaving behind the city of Atlanta the General led the troops throughout the city and destroyed everything in their path until they reached the city port of Savannah.
FORT SUMTER
On Thursday, April 11, 1861 at 4:00 to 4:30 am, the first shot was fired at Fort Sumter. Continuing up to that proceeded the American Civil War. The battle started after South Carolina seceded from the United States, on December 20, 1860. The fort was controlled by the Confederates and Major Robert Anderson of the United States tried taking over the fort that the South had occupied. The South didn't surrender so the first shot was fired by the Union, and the battle raged on as gunfire spread throughout the fort. Despite the battle continuing until 4:00 am the next morning no casualties were lost. The North had surrendered and the South had won the battle.
